What’s an installation if the object is differentiated from the room, is it just location meets imposition? Presence? Isn’t it interface, and what overtakes a space and what comes in and what is moving through rooms over time, people, light, pathways, the shadow sculpture, the light sculpture, pull together elements that already exist, meditate, and take cover. 3-D light and shadow sculpture about controlling the light, catching it, the shadows, baffling them, making them, focusing them, I can do all this now, I have found thin lenses so lightweight they mount to the wire with a nod of the pliers, and harmless as a piece of cardboard.
Enough thinking, it says to me, just start making.
Control of the whole body of the piece, control/agency over what space the piece creates for the body of the viewer, not presence of the regarded, but presence of experience, an alternative infrastructure that intersects the room. (is that the d&g word?)
Quit quit writing and start assembling. I have to hopeguess to create without seeing. Have you seen a written message rolled up and corked inside a glass bottle? With your naked eyes? Well, what have you seen?
